Squash-ly Delightful

I was feeding fresh water tilapia in one of the 2 ponds when Kong, my grandchild of 2 years and 7 months old scream in baby language: “Tata, tata, tata.  Doon, don, doon.”  Kong was pointing towards the middle land separating the two ponds.

The middle land was a bit bushy.  Hurriedly, I ran where Kong was standing and I got excited of what to see.  Could it be a python, or a big toad?  Maybe an egret or a crow?
None of what I was thinking!  Thoroughly examining the bush, I saw a glittering yellow squash partly hidden in the bush.  I’m glad Kong was sharp-eyed

Are you familiar with the nutritional importance of squash?  Here’s what I found out.  Squash is energy giving vegetable.  It has carbohydrates, fiber, fat, protein, water, riboflavin, vitamin C and potassium.

Not only that.  Aside from the fruit, other parts of the plant are edible. The squash seeds can be ground into nut butter, flour, paste and can be pressed for vegetable oil.  Squash shoots, leaves and tendrils are good as greens. The blossom is also very well for cooking.  I like to eat squash dish with tiger prawns, herbs, spices and coco milk.

“Tata, tata, tata…doon, don, doon.”  Kong is calling me again.  How do you feel having a grand boy readily pointing nice things near you, but you can’t see?  It’s really a squash-ly delightful day for me.  Excuse me; I’ll be with you later.
